Light and shadows break over Pleasant Bay in Chatham, MA on the southeastern portion of Cape Cod. Eastward Ho! Country Club is a private and very old course built on what once was an Indian settlement. In the 1600's William Bradford of the Plymouth Colony and his Indian guide Squanto sailed to that same Indian settlement in the hopes of securing beans and corn for the underfed Pilgrims. Unfortunately, Squanto died either in route or while there and is buried somewhere under the present day golf course. Eastward Ho! is old in feeling and quasi wild in its overall look, with so many holes overhanging Pleasant Bay, the steep hills, and fescue.  Given that combination, the superintendent has done a remarkable job of maintaining a highly groomed course that can feel and look like a golfer might imagine the earlier courses to be.
