The Old Red Barn
Central Maine

On a rainy, chilly day in the late summer I discovered this old red barn in a field. Grabbing my painting gear and an oversized umbrella, I planted myself in the open field and got focused on the scene before me. Since this was my first time to paint under such conditions, the day became a memorable event and I can still recapture the feel of that afternoon. What drew me into the scene was the weather beaten look of the barn, the chipped and faded paint, and most of all the rusted metal roof and silo. To create those effects, I used a good deal of dry brushing technique.
